What is Chemical Stress and How Does it Affect Us?

Body Stress Release is all about helping the body get rid of stress that is caused by various factors, both internal and external.

The most common causes of stress are talked about often and in much detail. However, one stress causing factor that doesn’t get much attention is chemical stress.

Chemical Stress and How it Affects Us

Chemical stress is one of those external stressors that takes its toll on our bodies, whether we are aware of it or not.

But, the question remains, what is chemical stress and how exactly does it affect us?

With little information out there, the Body Stress Release Association has provided us with everything we need to know about chemical stress.

Body Stress Release and Chemical Stress

People vary in their sensitivity to different chemicals. For example, one person may seem unaffected by hand sanitisers, surface disinfectants and insecticides, while another may have a severe reaction with an immediate headache and nausea.

“There is a growing invisible epidemic, due to the chemicalisation of our modern world. Most people are unaware of the presence of chemical stress in their lives, yet the impact may be devastating and debilitating.

One of the most vital discoveries in BSR research has been pinpointing the precise physical effects of chemically-induced body stress, and working out the specific techniques necessary to release it.

When the body cannot adapt to a chemical stressor, there is an automatic tightening of muscles in a specific area at the top of the spine.

The effects of chemical stress usually come on suddenly - a severe headache, often with a particular pattern of pain, such as on one side of the head, or through one eye.

Muscle tightness is felt at the base of the skull. There may be dizziness or nausea. In addition, the person’s face becomes very pale.”

Types of Chemical Stress

Three categories of chemical stress:

“We may be affected by chemicals that we swallow, breathe in, or touch.”

Ingestion

“Commonly, chemicals are added to foods, such as preservatives, colourants and flavourants. There may be insecticide residue on fruits and vegetables.”

Inhalation

“When we breath in a harmful chemical, it is rapidly absorbed into the blood vessels in the lungs, so there may be an instant, defensive tightening reaction from the body. Toxin substances may include insecticides, paint, varnish and glue.”

Contact

“We may absorb chemicals through the skin and experience a stress overload response. The problem substance may be in cosmetics, soaps, deodorant, hand sanitizers and cleaning products.”

Common Causes and Symptoms of Chemical Stress

“Other causes of chemical stress may be through injection or may arise within the body from toxins produced by the action of bacteria or viruses.

Symptoms of shakiness, shivering and nausea also show the chemical body stress reaction. Another cause may be overheating – the typical chemical body stress patterns are detectable in people with heat exhaustion headaches.”

Body Stress Release Cape Town – Dealing with Chemical Stress

Chemical stress is caused by various external factors such as the environment as well as from things that we consume such as alcohol and chemical based medication.

It’s common to be unaware of the chemical stress-load that you may be carrying. However, that does not mean that your body is not suffering the consequences.

Letting go of chemical stress is as important as letting go of any other kind of stress that you are more aware of.

The Body Stress Release technique allows me as a practitioner to identify the presence of chemical stress before systematically helping the body release it in a gentle, yet effective way.
